7 Reasons to Create Your Own Oracle Card Deck (Besides Just Making Another Product to Sell)
Since I first began my journey of creating my own card decks more than a decade ago, hundreds of soul-led entrepreneurs and creatives have come to me for guidance on making their dream of their own oracle, tarot, or affirmation deck happen.
One thing has become clear to me over the years: While the first obvious motivation for designing a card deck might seem as simple as creating another product to sell, the truth is that there are SO many great reasons to make your own deck.
Selling a physical product for profit is just one of them—and usually, it’s just a small part of what inspires the creators I work with.
Obviously, you want to be able to make your deck creation venture a sustainable part of your business and creative journey (and there are many ways to do this).
But today, let’s talk about some of the other important reasons why you may want to make a deck, whether as a business project, a creative soul calling, or just for fun!

Why You Should Make Your Own Oracle, Tarot, or Affirmation Deck
1. Your Card Deck as a Sacred Soul Calling
While talking to many aspiring deck creators over the last decade, I’ve noticed a pattern: For almost everyone, the dream begins as a spark of inspiration that comes from a place deep within. Often, it quietly gestates for years. It keeps calling and nudging in ways that can’t be ignored. No matter how long you wait or stay stuck in research mode, the urge to bring your card deck to life won’t go away—on the contrary; it keeps getting stronger.
If this is you, you probably already know this: Your oracle deck project is a sacred part of your soul’s journey. It may be a vehicle for you to share your wisdom with the world, a product to support the growth and expansion of your business, or a personal heart project—but no matter what: You know your idea is meant to become real, and there’s no way around it.
Probably for many reasons beyond what you can even imagine right now. (A soul journey is rarely a straightforward path—but it’s always one worth pursuing! If you’re waiting for the nudge to start, here it is!)

2. A Journey of Healing, Purpose, and Liberating Your Own Self-Expression
Before we dive into any of the more practical reasons why publishing your own card deck might be the perfect next step on the path of expanding your soul-led business:
Any creative project inspired by your soul is an invitation to grow in ways that are deeply personal. When you connect with the spirit of your card deck, you may get a sense of your big WHY. You may feel a longing for a stronger sense of purpose in your life, perhaps a new avenue of reaching more people and making a bigger impact with your message—but underneath all of it, there’s a gift for you!
Beyond the world that needs the medicine your card deck brings, what is the creative fire within you calling for? What dreams, desires, and soul urges have you been denying yourself—perhaps for many years—while waiting for the “go” to finally bring your vision to life? What doors would open for you (especially within you) if you gave yourself permission to take that first step? How would freeing up the space to create liberate you?
Maybe you’ve been suppressing your own voice, and you’re craving a way to express yourself more freely. Perhaps a new, more fulfilling career path is calling, and publishing your card deck is the first step. Or you’ve been busy taking care of everyone else for a long time, and making space to create is your way of doing something just for you! Maybe you’ve suffered great loss and trauma, and creating your card deck is a healing journey for you.
Whatever it is for you, only you can know! What would giving yourself permission to start mean for you?

3. A Sacred Tool to Deliver Your Message & Share Your Work in a New Way
If you’re a coach, healer, intuitive, inspirational author, or other purpose-led business owner, creating your own card deck will almost certainly propel your work to the next level.
Not just because it can serve as a tool for business expansion (that part comes later), but first of all, because the project itself invites you to reconnect with your big vision, reassess what’s important to you as you move forward, what you want to be known for and what message you’re here to deliver, and how all parts of your work fit together.
Some pieces may have to go. Old identities may want to be released. What remains comes back together in a more holistic and cohesive form while you explore a completely new way of sharing your work with the world. More aligned with who you are now and who you’re becoming.
You may not always have complete clarity about every piece before you get started, and that’s okay. Evolving into your next-level self is part of the journey. It’ll stretch you beyond your comfort zone, both internally and physically.
And that, in turn, will open so many doors you likely can’t even imagine until you get there. (Enjoy the ride and let the adventure surprise you!)

4. Your Card Deck as an Accessible Way for Your Audience to Get to Know Your Work
Let’s dive into some of the more practical reasons for publishing your own card deck.
As I mentioned in the beginning, selling your deck for profit is only one small way it can support your business. The magic really is in the BIG picture—in all the ways the many parts of your work fit together.
If you’re a service-based business owner, one smart way to use your card deck is making it part of your offer funnel. Sharing your deck with the world is an easy, accessible way for your audience to get to know you and experience the impact of your work.
Although you’ll make some money off of selling the deck itself, what follows matters at least as much. Let’s say in addition to your deck, you also sell a course, a coaching package, and retreats themed around the same topic.
If you position your deck well, signing up for your other offers is the next logical step for your ideal client.
Rather than standing as one isolated offer, your card deck is the entry point to a whole journey with you, adding more value for your customers and creating a more sustainable offer structure for you within your business.

5. Your Oracle Deck as a Marketing & Content Prompt Tool
In addition to serving as a lead magnet introducing new people to your work, your card deck can support your marketing as a tool for creating content and connecting with your audience.
If you’re an intuitive reader, you may want to use your deck in live readings or weekly card pulls on social media or YouTube. If you’re a coach or healer, your card deck can provide you with prompts to give your audience a taste of what it’s like to work with you.
Your cards can provide you with the structure you need to share your work in a cohesive way without over planning. You can schedule your content ahead of time without always having to know exactly what you’re going to talk about, leaving room for inspiration and spontaneity.
At the same time, you’re making the experience fun and playful for yourself and your audience, which makes your work more memorable and easy to connect with—not just intellectually, but in a felt, tangible way.
There are so many ways you can get creative with your card deck! Consider how you could use it not just in your weekly content but also as part of automated opt-in funnels, live events, challenges, virtual retreats, and more.

6. Starting a Product-Based Art Business With Your Card Deck
If you consider your creative projects the most important part of your work and you’re more passionate about designing products than offering services, your card deck can be the beginning of an entire product brand.
There are many artists out there who have built full businesses based on their art, offering art prints, books, card decks, subscriptions, and more.
If you’re just getting started, your journey with your card deck can be the perfect opportunity to begin sharing your art with the world. Or, if you’ve already built your foundation, creating a deck featuring your art can help you get more eyes on your work while giving your audience a beautiful, unique new way of experiencing your creations.
Again, there are many ways to play and get creative, both in how you make art and share it with the world!

7. A Fun Gift for Your Inner Child (or Those You Love)
Last but not least, you may want to make a card deck just because… You don’t always have to have a reason—sometimes, just following your inspiration and having fun is exactly what you need!
Designing a deck can be as simple as going on a playdate with your inner child and making something colourful simply because you enjoy it.
Or: There may be a special someone in your life who would be delighted to receive your cards as a magical gift.
You can hand-draw or paint, use markers, play with collage art, make a deck with your favourite pet photos, write heartfelt love notes … The possibilities are endless!
